Topography rights for micro electrical semiconductor products mainly are applicable in the field of computer chips wherein only the geometrical arrangement of the latter can be protected, but not any technological configurations. Protection of topographies also is achieved by application and registration without any substantive examination. In contrast to patent, utility model and design law, protection of topographies does not require novelty. A topography is already protectable, if on the application date, the topography applied for has not yet been commercialized. Moreover, topography protection is achieved on the date of commercially utilizing the topography as long as this topography is filed with the German Patent and Trademark Office within two years after the commercial utilization. Topography protection ends after ten years.
